The successful candidate is responsible for the provision of advanced clinical services, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation to a diverse and complex patient group ranging from children to seniors. Services include both individual and group treatment. The incumbent works independently as they are located in medical clinics and are responsible for providing Behavioural Health Care Services, which are short-term psychological counselling interventions for patients with addiction and mental health issues, as well as complex medical conditions. The incumbent is required to synthesize a large amount of highly complex information in a short time period and provide same day documentation. The incumbent also provides Shared Care Services, which involve both formal and informal consultation and education for physicians and other staff in medical clinics regarding their patients and services available for them, as well as in-services on a variety of addiction and mental health topics (as request). This position requires a high degree of clinical skill and experience as well as exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to function independently in a non-AHS work setting, as they typically bridge between medical clinics and other AHS Addiction and Mental Health programs. Required Qualifications:

Job Summary
The Campbell Clinic in conjunction with the University of Lethbridge is seeking the services of a Nurse Practitioner for a multi faceted approach to patient care. The successful candidate will work with both locations to provide Chronic Disease Management, Mental Health Services as well as Primary Care Services for unattached or underserved patient populations.

The position is a shared position and schedule details will be arranged with the successful candidate once hired.

Nursing activities performed are determined by legislation, regulation, regulatory body standards and guidelines, policy, educational preparation, practice setting, patient need and competency of the individual NP. The standards and values of the nursing profession provide the foundation for the NP role (CNA, 2010). The NP uses an evidence-informed holistic approach that emphasizes the nursing professions’ values, expertise and education.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

Clinical Practice


Nurse Practitioners may be the most responsible practitioner for individuals and families. The NP should only perform activities that would be fee-for-service eligible if completed by a physician.  NP will spend the majority of time in clinical practice where they independently and autonomously:

  • Perform advanced, focused and/or comprehensive health assessments;
  • Order, interpret and perform diagnostic tests;
  • Formulate differential diagnoses through the integration of patient information and evidence-informed practice;
  • Communicate assessment findings and/or diagnoses including outcomes and prognoses to patients/families;
  • Develop, communicate and implement plans of care including performing invasive and non-invasive interventions, treatments and procedures;
  • Prescribe and distribute Schedule 1 pharmaceuticals, medical devices and other therapies;
  • Utilize complex reasoning reflective of expertise and education to safely coordinate and manage care for patients while promoting continuity across the continuum of care;
  • Support individuals, families, groups, communities and populations in meeting their health and learning needs while encouraging participation in care;
  • Coordinate and facilitate care for patients with other healthcare providers within the medical home, agencies and community resources;
  • Provide emergent/urgent decisions in the complex management of patients
  • Document the provision of care for patients;
  • Promote best practices and healthy safe patient care environments; and
  • May be required to maintain and perform non-invasive and invasive procedures pertinent to area of clinical practice. 
  • Treat complications and potential complications (including but not limited to):
    • Upper respiratory infections,
    • Urinary tract infections,
    • Confirmation of pregnancy,
    • Suturing and suture removal,
    • Cast removal,
    • Women’s health exams,
    • Wart removal,
    • Viral infections,
    • Assessment and treatment of minor injury,
  • Provide Sexual health information and treatment,
  • Mental health and addictions.

Consultation and Referrals
NPs may be the most responsible practitioner for individuals and families in select facilities and practice settings and:
  • Collaborate with members of the healthcare team to provide and promote interprofessional, patient/family centered care;
  • As independent and autonomous NPs accept referrals from others including: healthcare providers, families , patients, physicians and specialists; and
  • Consult with and/or refer patients to other healthcare providers as required.


Education and Counselling
NPs assume roles across diverse practice settings and patient populations and may be required to:
  • Provide education and counselling to patients/families/groups/communities;
  • Maintain ongoing professional development and continuing competence as per CARNA; and
  • Encourage and support ongoing professional development in others
Minimum Education/Experience Required

Qualifications required are:

Successful completion of an approved NP program at a minimum of a Master of Nursing level or equivalent;
  • Registration with CARNA as a NP;
  • BLS certification
  • Recent clinical experience in the area of Primary Care
  • Mental Health and Addictions experience preferred
  • Comfortable with accessing or ability to learn EMR systems and Netcare.
  • Willingness to complete additional education and/or certifications specific to area of practice
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Clinic Manager, Campbell Clinic

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Palliser Medical Clinic lead physician, the Nurse Practitioner provides a patient centered approach to client care consistent with the philosophy of building a medical home where patients can access appropriate and timely health care. 

The NP will work with a multi-disciplinary team composed of physicians, nurses, behavior health clinicians, a social worker and medical office assistants within a primary care facility operated during set clinic and extended clinic hours.

The NP performs restricted activities within their scope of practice as defined by Schedule 24 of the Health Professions Act, the Registered Nurses Profession Regulations and the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA).

The NP will support the Chinook Primary Care Network mission and vision and patient centered care within a medical home. 

Major Duties and Responsbilities:

·        Provide care for a panel of patients within the clinic medical home and be able to see walk-in patients at short notice.

·        Perform advanced, focused and or comprehensive health assessments autonomously

·        Differential medical diagnosis and attention to proper documentation

Summary of Work:
The Laboratory/X-ray Technician will perform laboratory tests and radiology examinations using appropriate requisition forms as ordered from authorized professionals in timely fashion. The individual works closely with patients, referring professionals and care teams. Must be skilled in general human relations particularly with patients. Will advocate for patients and ensure they are in a comfortable mental and physical state during procedures. Projects a positive image for the Health Centre to the clients with whom he/she comes in contact with. Person must be culturally sensitive when performing laboratory and x-ray procedures. Maintain “Code of Confidentiality” regarding highly classified information regarding patient and Health Centre information. Accountable to the patients and physicians of the Blood Tribe Department of Health, Inc. for ensuring prompt, reliable and accurate laboratory and radiology services

Technical duties and responsibilities: 
• Follow radiation protection practices, regulations, and philosophy to reduce risk to patients, staff and visitors.
• Knowledge of all applicable legislation and regulations involved.
• Perform phlebotomy procedures (macro and/or micro) in a manner both safe to phlebotomist and patient
• Provide patient instructions on various sample collections utilizing current supplied patient instruction sheets
• Book all patient referrals for ultrasound, CT, MRI, UGI, etc., to appropriate facilities
• Work closely with Clinic physicians, Clinical Care Coordinator, LPNs, Health Information Manager and other staff members to ensure steady patient flow
• Perform routine urinalysis and urine HCG testing according to methodology with results sent back to physician to assist with patient diagnosis
• Make every effort patient wait time for laboratory testing and radiology examinations are kept to a minimum
• Be accountable for ensuring that laboratory tests and radiology examinations are done with utmost accuracy
• Be able to recognize any errors regarding testing and contacting appropriate individuals
• Report all abnormal results and findings to appropriate individuals

Professional Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an approved Combined Laboratory & X-ray Program
  • CPR & First Aid
  • Two (2) years’ work-related experience
